Gets the job done
I purchased this safe when we had our first child. He's now two years old and there have been no issues with the safe, or access to the contents over that period of time.
I originally was looking for a handgun safe that used biometrics to open the door, but after talking with a variety of people at the gun shows, their opinion was the biometric option wasn't reliable enough. Apparently, there were opening delays as well as a tendency for the biometric mechanism to be picky about finger placement. With that in mind I bought this product.
I chose this model due to it's price and positive reviews on another website. It works well and the functionality is reasonable. Here are a few things I like about the safe:
1. Reasonably priced
2. The buttons are adjustable for the amount of force necessary to register a button push
3. It accepts multiple entry codes (I've never used the feature, but I guess if my wife decides she's more comfortable with a...
Good but...
This is a good quick access safe for the money. I can't say I ever had any problems with mine and I had this safe for about 8 years until our house was robbed. The batteries lasted 5 years before they needed to get changed out and the safe always opened. When our home was robbed though I changed my opinion on this design (that would include similar units by gunvault and Sentry). The problem I found the hard way was the base plate did not resist a prying attack - the thieves were able to pry the safe off the base plate (which was bolted down) fairly easily. Once that was done they took the whole unit out to my garage and used a sledgehammer to crush the top of the safe and force the door. They were then able to steal my handgun and other valuables.
That said - features I liked: 1)silent mode, 2)long battery life 3)interior light 4)low cost 5)keyed back up
Things I did not like 1) weak structural design - think of this as more of a security cabinet than a...
Good for the price
Mounting the batteries is kind of a pain, but after 9 months of owning this safe, I am satisfied. I drilled a hole on the back corner and ran a 3/8 inch cable and bolted it to the inside. The other end of the cable runs around the passenger seat mounts in my truck and padlocked to itself. This will by no means stop a determined thief, but it will prevent the "smash and dash" crook. I keep my hand gun in the safe while I'm at work and can open the safe with one hand while driving. I researched a lot of portable safes before buying and would purchase this one again.
