Vanguard Spirit XF 1042 Binoculars

Nice mid-weight binoculars with great field of visioin
I have three sets of binoculars. Nikon Action 12 X 50 5.5, Bushnell Off Trail 8 X 30, and now this Vanguard Spirit XF 10 X 42.

The numbers.

The first number (10) refers to the magnification, or, how many times closer an object will appear when looking through the binocular compared to looking at the same object with the naked eye. The second number (42) indicates the diameter of the objective lens (the light-gathering lens) in millimeters.

The aperture.

The bigger the lens, the heavier the binocular. While a large lens may provide a brighter image, the compromise is increased size and weight. On the other hand, a compact binocular fits in your pocket quite nicely, but because of its small objective lens size, it will not be as bright, especially in low light conditions such as dawn, dusk, or in the woods.

So, the Vanguard Spirit has a ten power magnification and a 42 mm objective lens. Field of View of 332 feet. Near focus of 6.9...
Well designed and exceptional clarity
Vanguard has outdone themselves with this phenomenal set of binoculars. Already a trusted brand in hunting optics, they are well on their way to making some of the best binoculars I have ever used. We have friends who own a small sporting goods store, so we brought these in to compare them to the other brands and types of binoculars they had in stock, and the clarity and design of these Vanguards outdid the others is every way.

To start, they're designed for using outdoors, there's no doubt about that. They are waterproof, with a black rubber textured design, so they are easy to hold on to even with wet or sweaty hands. The finish on the rubber is a black matte, so you won't be giving away your position (if you're hunting) with any glossy shine. The caps on both ends are very easily removed and are made of a soft rubber, that's not so tight it's a struggle to use, but not so loose you'll lose them somewhere. The eye-cups adjust by twisting them and to focus, and there is a...
Excellent Binoculars
No 'pin hole' views with the Vanguard Spirit binoculars.

When you hold these up to your eyes, it's like you've switched from a table top TV (other binoculars) to a large format HD widescreen (Vanguard).

The large lens size opens up a whole new field of vision, with clarity and a broad range.

Took them to the Beach Boys 50th Anniversary Tour concert and felt like I was on stage with Brian, Mike, and Al!

Well constructed and waterproof - they will be excellent for any field trip you take.

For birdwatching, they would be exceptional.
