looks cool but...
I got this axe about 3 months ago. After about 2 weeks of throwing and chopping work the head started to come off. The metal is fine but the connection with the shaft needs much improvement before I would by another.
Cold Steel Vietnam tomahawk
A good starter hawk if you can find it for under $35. While it is better steel and wood than most low-end tomahawks, It is not in the same league as The American Tomahawk Company's VTAC($110-$120), And certainly will not hold up to the abuse one of the RMJ Tactical products. (Upwards of $300)
For what it is, it does well. I own two of these models. The first one came decently sharp, but the glue on top of the handle that holds the head on was chipped and some substance like hot glue was used to replace the crack. After ten to fifteen throws, It was sliding all over. I still use it, because it is secured pretty well, but I don't throw it anymore.
My second one, the main blade came duller than dull. The spike however, was extremely sharp. A few minutes with a file and then with a sharpening stone, it had a really good edge. The handle right under the head is carved differently than my first one, swelling right under the head. This gives me hope that it will not...
Head good, handle worthless
Had this Tomahawk for 10 minutes before the handle broke off. Went to hardware store bought a second one got home 10 minutes later that handle broke off. Now what????? Tomahawk head is nice, sharp, sticks well. Would be very useful if I could get a handle to work.
