Exceptional Equipment
This monocular has a sturdy, durable construction which feels substantial in your hand. Although the magnification is relatively low, the quality of the image is ridiculously clear and resolute. The focus works very well, is easily accessed and easy to adjust.
The build of this monocular is very functional, with a clip on the side which can hook to molle straps. The case leaves a bit to be desired, but is also molle compatible. The only short side is the lack of a lens cover. I use the lens cleaner it shipped with and a rubber band to cover the lens when not in use. It works well and keeps out debris. The eye relief is great and keeps out any stray light obscuring the image by fitting right into the eye socket.
Perhaps the best part of this lens is the reticle which is easily used to estimate distances with just a bit of simple math. The gradation of the mil-dot is resolute and in-focus, and is very easy to line up with the image observed. It's useful to...
serious optics
I bought this for birding on long hikes where a pair of binoculars seems like too much weight. The optics are excellent - and being 8x36 rather than 8x25 means the image is nice and bright. I showed it to a very serious birder who is blind in one eye and he agreed that the quality of the optics is way superior to other monoculars out there. But it is striking how much harder it is to judge distance than with the 8x42 Vortex binoculars I usually use. You need to be very clear indeed where the bird is (how far away) in order to be able to locate and focus on it quickly with the monocular.
Great Viewing
This is my first monocular and I really like it. It fits on my belt using an attached clip. I wear glasses and the 18mm eye relief sure helps with the viewing. It is lightweight at under 10 oz. I take them with me on all of my outings.
