These bad reviews are based on unrealistic expectations
I got this safe for Christmas. I recently purchased my first handgun, and before I kept ammo in my house, I wanted a safe place to keep my firearm out of the hands of my nephews or whoever else might visit my home, so that no accidental firing ever happens in my home as a result of the wrong person accidentally getting their hands on my gun and me not seeing them.
First, I'll list a couple of the pros with this safe, and then I'll address some of what I believe to be overly-harsh cons in other people's reviews.
PROS:
1) The finger scanner is easy to program and it works very well. Another reviewer stated that it only reads your finger print correctly 20% of the time. I don't know what they are doing wrong, because that has not been my experience at all. I have programmed four of my fingers, and the safe opens on the first try with every finger almost every single time. When it does not open on the first swipe, I normally notice that its because I...
It's ok, but there's better.
This safe has a sturdy steel construction and feels well constructed. It seems like it would be difficult to open without a key, fingerprint, or prybar. That's about all the good I can say about it. There's no handle on it, so you need to rely on gravity and the springs to push it open. I had to put something under the back to give it a slight forward slant to make sure the door would open, not the most reliable way I want my "quick access" safe to operate.
The fingerprint scanner is the main point of concern for me. My wife and I both scanned forefinger and middle finger for both hands. When you scan your fingerprint you have to scan it at least 5 times so it learns your print from different angles, that's all fine and dandy. Except when you're actually trying to open the safe it still takes a few tries to open the safe. I would say on average, no matter which finger we were using, it takes 3 swipes to open it up. There's also a bit of delay from when you press the...
Works as a movie prop
This safe can be defeated by anyone in mere seconds. It's NOT secure at all. All you need is youtube and a paperclip. Kids can open it and add their own fingerprints to the biometrics without adults knowing. This safe should be recalled.
