Stack-On SS-16-MB-E 16 Gun Fully Convertible Security Safe with Electronic Lock, Matte Black

Metal Thickness
I believe that safe manufacturers should list the thickness of the door and walls on any cabinet, strong box, or safe that they produce. I used a pair of calipers to measure the thickness of the door and walls since Stack-On didn't provide this information.

The door and walls of the SS-16-MG-C are 0.085 inches thick (14 gauge steel plus the paint).

For comparison: The edges of a filing cabinet that I was able to measure were 0.030 inches thick (22 or 23 gauge steel). The various parts of a basic gun cabinet that I measured were 0.055 to 0.065 inches thick (17 or 16 gauge steel). Better residential "safes" typically have 0.1196 inch thick (11 gauge) or thicker bodies and a 0.1793 inch thick (7 gauge) or thicker doors.

So the Stack-On SS-16-MG-C occupies a middle ground between steel cabinets and the better 500+ pound residential "safes". If your choice is between a gun cabinet and the SS-16-MG-C, definitely get the SS-16-MG-C. If your choice is between...
Good safe but not configured as pictured
Delivery went smooth.
Safe has a heavy chemical smell when first opened - probably from the gule, paint and carpet used to make it.
I'll let it air out for a few days and maybe it will have less odor.
Operates as described.
Opening is easy, changing combination is easy, adding battery is also easy.
The picture in the Amazon ad shows a bunch of shelves on the left side - this is not how the safe is configured. It has one small shelf on the top that is less than half the depth of the safe. Look at the mfrs website for the actual configuration of this unit. I also called the mfr about adding more shelves and Stack On customer service was less than helpful when it came to modifying this unit. I asked the customer service person if they sold any shelves to modify the safe to make it look like what's in the picture and she told me I'm on my own to figure anything out. I am satisfied with the unit.
Don't buy this unit if you want one configured as the...
Not as described
Safe itself was ok. Setting up my own passcode was easy.
Locking mechanism seemed reliable.

However, there were no shelves as seen on the photo.
Just tiny slots for your rifle barrel to lean on. Your ammo and other
accessories all need to sit on the floor of the safe. Very inconvenient!!

I returned it.
